Scope and Contents

The Fargo-Moorhead FLAG Photograph Collection includes a wide variety of images of the annual awards events and of parades and events elsewhere in the United States. The organization here is original as to how they were in the organization’s album. Most of them are of the annual award events held in Fargo and which were organized chronologically. The Annual Awards Series includes 104 photographs taken of the annual event in Fargo from 1995 to 2002. Most of the original files included copy of the programs for the annual awards event with title ‘A Tribute To Heroes’. Almost all of the photographs include identification of the people attending, speaking and given awards. The Topical Series includes 55 photographs taken at other events around the United States from 1996 to 2002. They are organized by the event identification with the photographs. They are primarily of people attending and most are identified. There is a number of images of the Gay Pride Parade in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1998, 1999 and 2000.

History

The Fargo-Moorhead PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) was established in September 1986. A Statement of Purpose gives “Our group of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (Parents-Flag, or P-Flag) is part of a large network of Parents, family members, and friends across the country who meet to support each other in the effort to understand our gay and lesbian children and friends.” A mission statement from 1997 conference states “To create, maintain, and nurture an affirming environment for gays, lesbians, bisexuals and their families.”
