Biography

George S. Newberry was born in Manvers, Ontario, October 21, 1876. He came to Cooperstown, Dakota Territory with his parents in 1883. He married Mayme Sheehy on January 8, 1901 and they had two sons James and George, Jr. Mr. Newberry first worked as a cashier in the First National Bank of Carrington, and eventually become the bank president. The bank closed in 1928, and at that time he started an insurance agency in Carrington. Mayme Newberry died in 1943, and George remarried in 1948 with Ann Westly. Mr. Newberry spent is final years in Minneapolis, Minnesota and died there in 1965.
