Biography
St. John’s Hospital was founded April, 17, 1900 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. The first hospital was located in the former home of Bishop John Shanley until November 1904 when a new hospital was built in Island Park. Also included in this new hospital was a training school for nurses. St. John’s Hospital would operate as a hospital and nursing school until 1986 when it merged with St. Ansgar Hospital to form Heartland Medical Center. It was renamed Heartland Medical Center in 1992.
