Biographical / Historical

The North Dakota State Normal and Industrial School was located in Ellendale, North Dakota and was established in 1889. It was originally named the State Manual Training School but changed to the State Normal and Industrial School in 1907. While it was chartered in 1889, buildings weren’t finished being constructed until ten years later, in 1899. Classes began that fall and the first three graduates, which were all women, graduated in 1901.

The school remained under state guidelines until 1972. The state support started to decline after a fire destroyed two of the school’s main buildings in 1970. In 1972, a referendum allowed Trinity Bible Institute (later Trinity Bible College) to obtain ownership.
