 Collection
Identifier: Mss 3047

Scope and Contents

The Hale Aarnes Speeches have been organized into three series: Speeches, Untitled or Undated Speeches, and General Files. The Biographical material consists of copies made from the Hale Aarnes file in the NDSU Faculty-Staff Biography Files. The Speeches Series includes numerous handwritten and typed speeches he gave to many organizations and events. They came in two folders and a binder that were organized roughly chronological. They have been organized alphabetically by the name of the speech. They also include the event, organization and date for each speech. Only several did not have a date or location. The Untitled or Undated Speeches Series consists of a small number of speech text and notes that were in the main folders and binder. They are organized based on the beginning text of each. Some do have a title but no date and others no title but a date. The General Series consists of a variety of items within the original speeches files but no specific data related to Aarnes speeches. This series is arranged alphabetically by subject. It includes five articles with same title of Blackboard Mechanics that Aarnes wrote for the North Dakota Education Association Journal in Jan.-May 1955. There is the program for the National Speech Tournament and National Student Congress held in Omaha, Nebraska June 22-25, 1965. There are two files of notes he may have used at various speeches but most likely not connected directly to those in the Speeches Series. The Speaking Listing & Income file consists of handwritten listing of 1952-1955 speeches he gave and include date, organization, event, and speech title. There are also several with financial income he received 1952-1962. The Variety clipping from Feb. 12, 1947 has one article with marking title ‘College Radio Studios Set with New Gadgets for Full Scale Course.”
