Scope and Contents
This collection contains letters mostly between Arthur and Sally, though there are a handful of letters to other people. The collection is in date order by the postmark on the envelopes. Many of the letters are written Hotel Fargoan stationary. These letters were used to write the three-book series, Hotel Fargoan by Eileen Torgersen-Smith.

Biography
Arthur Orvin Knold was born May 28, 1911 in Petersburg, North Dakota to John Toger Knold and Alice Swendseid. He had two younger brothers, Raymond Bernard and Vernon Leroy. Arthur spent his childhood between North Dakota and California. He graduated from Chaffee High School in Ontario, California in 1927.
Selma “Sally” Annette Eide was born January 5, 1911 to Halvor Martinius Eide and Anna Thompason in Gardner, Illinois. Sally had three siblings, Ardis Ruth Eide, Elda Mae Eide, and Howard Arthur Eide. She attended Moorhead State Teachers College and taught school locally.
Arthur married Sally on December 25, 1940 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. They would have three children. He and Sally would eventually move to Seattle, Washington in 1943. They had three children, Karen, Mary Linda, and John. Sally died December 10, 1977 and is buried in Acacia Memorial Park in Seattle, Washington.
On June 3, 1978, Arthur married Norma L. Fischnaller, who was born in Newton, Kansas (she would pass away in August 2010). Arthur passed away in 1989 and is buried next to Sally in Acacia Memorial Park, in Seattle Washington.
