The collection is arranged into three series. The Children Advocacy Series consists of records from Millerhagen’s involvement with the Governor’s Committee on Children & Youth, Children’s Services Coordinating Committee, and the Board of Directors for North Dakota Committee for the Protection of Child Abuse (NDCPCA), and Fargo Youth Commission. The Political Involvement Series consists of records pertaining to Millerhagen’s involvement with campaigning for and being involved with the Democratic-NPL party. The Community Involvement consists of Millerhagen’s involvement in the Fargo community, such as the Friends of the Library.

Biography

Jennie O. Millerhagen, a resident of Fargo, ND, is a political activist and involved in many community organizations. She served on the North Dakota Governor’s Committee on Children &Youth from 19911993 and served as Chairperson from 1992-93. Millerhagen also served on Children’s Services Coordinated Committee’s Funds Committee in 1993, was on the Board of Directors for North Dakota Children’s Caucus from 1993-95, serving as the organization’s Secretary 1994 &1995. Additionally Millerhagen was a member of the Board of Directors for North Dakota Committee for the Protection of Child Abuse (NDCPCA) from 1993-1998 and was the on the Fargo Youth Commission Board of Director in 1996. Millerhagen has been politically involved since the 1980s. She participated in the Agassiz Women’s Caucus from 1983-1992 and Democratic (Dem.) Women + from 1984-2011. She was also active in the ND Democratic-Nonpartisan League, working for Districts 45 and 21. Millerhagen was chair of District 21 from 1986-1990, as well assisting with ND Dem-NPL as the Cass County and state level to plan events. Millerhagen was also a member of the Fargo Area League of Women’s Voters (LWV) 1981-2001, serving as a Director from 1994-1997 and as 2nd Vice President from 1998-2000. Through her involvement with the Fargo Area LWV, Millerhagen also worked with the Women’s Political Caucus in 1996 & 1997 and Kids Voting in ND (Kids Voting) from 1996-1998. Millerhagen was also involved in the local community as a member the Friends of the Fargo Public Library from 1994-2009, and serving on their Board of Directors from 2003-2009. Additionally Millerhagen worked with Cultural Diversity Project as a member of the Human Health and Services/Social Services Team from 1994-1997.
