Biographical / Historical
The first meeting of the Red River Valley Woodcarvers Association was held October 14, 1973, though it was unofficial at the time. It was held in the home of Stewart and Marion Bakken. There was interest in forming a group and next meeting, held November 4, 1973 at the home of Porter Eide, was the first official meeting. At this meeting, the first officers were held and a committee formed to create the constitution. It was agreed upon at this meeting that the second Sunday of each month, the meeting would be held. The first couple of meetings were held in Butch Anton’s shop. Then they were held in the Indian Center which was formally St. John’s hospital Nurses’ home. The Association would continue to meet there until 1974.
After the Indian Center, the club would continue to meeting monthly in Dolve Hall on the NDSU campus. Then the meetings were moved to Bethany Homes. Currently, the Association holds its meeting and classes the first Saturday of every month, at In The Chips in Moorhead, Minnesota.
The Association is still active and has a website: https://rrvwoodcarvers.wordpress.com/
