Scope and Contents

This scrapbook was put together by Gertie and it includes clippings about horses and horse events such as horse racing. It also includes photographs that were printed in either a newspaper or magazine. Lastly it includes programs from horse shows.

Biographical / Historical

Aminda Gertrude “Gertie” Ostby was born January 1, 1886 in Norway to Gelines and Carrie Ostby. They immigrated to the United States around 1888 and settled near Argusville where her father farmed. She lived most of her life in the area. She worked as a maid in the Donaldson Hotel for a time as well in food service at North Dakota Agricultural College. She was also the assistant matron for Ceres Hall during World War I. She passed away in August 1986. At the time of her death she was survived by her sister Clara Nymon.
