Scope and Contents

This collection contains an assortment of various documents, ephemera, and correspondence all relating to North Dakota flooding. The documents contain information regarding flood data for different areas in the state, and for different specific rivers; namely the Sheyenne and Red River. This section also shows correspondence between Jim McLoughlin and various members of flood relief during the late 1990s. US Geological survey reports are also present in this collection as well as documents from the US Army Corps of Engineers, and other US Federal Agencies. National weather service reports, Red River flood data from Minnesota, and North Dakota state records are also present in this collection. One of the largest sections of this collection is the newspaper set. Newspaper clippings of various floods across the state are shown here ranging from 1995-1999. Other misc. newspaper clippings can be found here as well.

History

In the late 1990s North Dakota saw a series of serious floods along the Red River Valley in the eastern side of the state. Many cities along the red river received incredible flood damage, Grand Forks most of all. The flooding drew national attention and the State required federal assistance to recover from the disaster.
