Scope and Contents
This collection consists primarily of correspondence between Psyche and her family members, mainly her daughter Norma. Also included are postcards, mostly to Psyche from various family members, invitations and announcements, bank documents, bills and receipts, expense accounts, a concert program, newspaper clippings, phone numbers, photos, a song book, student directories, a teachers certificate, and a telegram.

Biography
Psyche Maude Gooden (Sutherland) was born on September 6, 1876 in Illinois to Martha Olive Mattie Sutherland (Reeves) and Isaac Edwin Sutherland. She married John C. Gooden on June 24, 1896. They had a daughter Norma Arlene Ostby (Gooden) born December 15, 1898. Psyche lived in Illinois, Des Moines, Iowa and Fargo, North Dakota throughout her life. In the early 1900s, Psyche was a milliner, making women’s hats. In the 1930s, she was an employment secretary in Fargo, first for the YMCA, and then for North Dakota Agricultural College, where she found jobs for students. Psyche passed away on February 2, 1950 in Fargo, North Dakota.
