Scope and Contents
The Personal Photographs, are comprised mostly of snapshot photographs of Richard Schneider as a child, at Halloween parties as an adult, at the beach, and at baseball games.
The Family Photographs, contains photographs of Richard Schneider with his family on holidays such as the 4th of July, Christmas, and on a road trip to Denver, Colorado.
The Children’s Crippled School & Manor Photograph file contains photographs of Richard Schneider at the Crippled Children School in Jamestown, North Dakota, and attending events at the New Horizon Manor, in Fargo, North Dakota.

Biography
Richard Schneider was born on December 9, 1939 to Mary and Edward Schneider. He was born with cerebral palsy. He graduated from the Crippled Children’s School (now the Anne Carlson Center), in Jamestown, North Dakota. He received his undergraduate degree from NDSU in 1974 and went on to obtain his master of science in Education from NDSU in 1988. Richard’s brother John was active in the state legislator and served in the House of Representatives from 1982 to 1992. Richard also had three other brothers, Joe, Steve, and Mark, who all graduated from NDSU, and a sister Dorothy who was a colonel in the army.
Richard used an electric typewriter to help with school and written communication. Richard won many awards and was an active legislative advocate for the handicapped. He wrote papers during his time at NDSU on transportation, and his disability in the hopes that there would be improvements in buildings and spreading awareness. Richard passed away in 2010. The photographs document the life of someone living with a disability.
