This collection contains two of the Winrod Letter, from May and June of 1997. These two letters were originally in the Handy-Marchello papers (MSS 3093) but were removed and this collection was created as they did not fit that collection.

Biography

Gordon Winrod was born December 30, 1926 in Wichita, Kansas to Gerald Burton Winrod. He attended St. John’s College in Winfield, Kansas and he then served in the U. S. Maritime service and U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1948. He married Genevieve Ann Dicke in Topeka, Kansas in 1948. They would go on to have eleven children. He would eventually graduate from Concordia Seminary in Illinois.

Starting in 1960, he has written a monthly titled The Winrod Letter. Also in the time, since 1964, Gordon has been the pastor of Our Savior’s Church and Latin School in Gainesville, Missouri, which he created.

On may 17, 2000, Gordon and two of his children were arrested in Ozark County, Missouri. They were arrested on child abduction charges which stemmed from the alleged kidnapping of six of Winrod’s grandchildren in 1994 and 1995. Gordon was sentenced to prison for 30 years in 2001. He was released from prison in 2012.

As of 2017, Gordon was still alive and living with his daughter and son-in-law.
