Scope and Content

Four sets of letters written by Lt. W.F. Herreid serving in the Pacific Theater during WWII, sent to Art and Irene Cramer of Valley City, N.D. between December 1944 and October 1945. The last letter dated October 12, 1945, give a good discriptive overview of his service record during the war.

Biography

Wayne Freeman Herreid was born June 17, 1910 to Oscar J. and Minnie L.E. (Freeman) Herreid in Fargo, North Dakota. He went to North Dakota Agricultural College where he was a member of Delta Kappa Sigma. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the School of Science and Literature in 1933. He would live in Peoria, Illinois. His wife’s name was Blanch (Scott) and he has three children, Scott, Brent, and Teresa. He would enlist in the U.S. Navy and serve in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He died March 13, 1997 in Peoria, Illinois.
