Biography
George Walker Bush was born July 6, 1946 to George Herbert Walker and Barbara (Pierce) Bush in New Haven, Connecticut. He and his four siblings, John, Neil, Marvin, and Dorothy were raised in Texas. In 1977, he met and later married Laura Welch. They would go on to have fraternal twin daughters, Barbara and Jenna Bush.
George Bush became the governor of Texas in 1995 and was governor for five years and it was after his second re-election that he made to the decision to run for president of the United States. After winning the primaries, on July 25, 2000, Bush chose Dick Cheney as his running mate. After the election on November 7th of that year, Bush had won 29 states. The close election in Florida led to a recount but was again contested. This contention led to the decision reaching the U.S. Supreme court, Bush v. Gore. The ruling went to Bush and although he lost the popular vote, he won the election by receiving 271 electoral votes.
George Bush decided to seek re-election in 2004. His Democratic challenger was John Kerry. In this election, Bush received 2886 electoral votes as well as the popular vote.
Once George finished his second term in office, he and Laura moved back to Texas where they live on a small ranch.
