Scope and Content
The collection consists of Hazel Walker Weston’s unpublished fictional manuscript entitled Number One Hard , based on the history of her father and her own memories growing up in North Dakota. The document gives a vivid picture of life in North Dakota in the late 1800s. The manuscript is 10 chapters and 174 pages. Included with the manuscript are a copy of her obituary, her Curriculum Vita, and some donor correspondence.

Biography
Hazel Walker Weston was born on January 3, 1900, in Fargo, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Uri and Martha (Wickton) Walker. She studied violin and music and received degrees from the Wesley Conservatory and the University of North Dakota. She supervised music in the public schools in Faribault, Minnesota, and Fargo. She served on the faculty at Carlton College in Northfield, Minnesota. She married Eli Weston in 1926, and they moved to Boise, Idaho in 1932, where Eli became an attorney specializing in labor law. Hazel was active in the music organizations and civic activities in Boise. She organized the Boise Opera Company, and was awarded the Idaho Statesman Distinguished Citizen and Governor Award in recognition of her contributions to music and creative writing. She died in Boise on January 11, 1994. The Weston’s had two sons, Richard and Robert.
