Biography
Christian Albus was born September 15, 1855in Neufratautz, Austria (this town is Frătăuţii Noi in Romania) to Christian Albus and Margaret Massier Albus. The family eventually moved to a town galled Gatalui in Turkey (Processing note: this town is now in southern Romania). There the family would farm, raising grains. Around 1875, Christian married Magdalena Rodacker. Their first child, Christian, was born February 24, 1877. Another son, Frederick was born about a year later but died infancy, followed soon after by Magdalena.
On April 20, 1879, Christian Jr. married Katharina Edinger, who was born in Alt Danzig, Russia (today, still under that name as well as Karlivka in present day Ukraine) on January 20, 1862. They would have twelve more children, Frederick H (1881-1926), Jacob T. (1883), Frank D. (1885), Caroline Bauer (1886), Pauline Seibold (1888), Dorothy (1890), Rose Morrison (1892), Emma Benski (1894), Henry (1897), Marie Smith (1899-1921), and Arthur J. (1906).
In late 1882, a large group of ethnic Germans left Romania for the United States. This group included fifteen adults, and almost as many children. Included both Christian Albus Senior and his wife, as well as Christian Jr. and Katharina. It also included other members of the extended Albus family. The families arrived to Jamestown in October of 1882. The families would winter there until March of 1883, when some of the men went north to purchase land. Eventually the families would settle near the Pipestream river (today Pipestream creek) between Carrington, North Dakota and Jamestown, North Dakota.
