Scope and Contents

Two original typed reminiscences in which Pugh recounts his life, particularly after immigrating to America, coming to Bowman County, N.D. in 1908 where he homesteaded land, farmed, and worked on area farms and ranches. One reminiscence is titled 'From Merionethshire, Wales; to Bowman County, North Dakota' ... 'as told to Harry Graves.' The other reminiscence apparently was compiled in 1961 and also recounts his life experiences, but in greater detail.

Biography

Thomas Pugh was born on a farm named Pentyron in Pennol, Wales, England. When he was 12 and a half, he quite school and went to work on a farm. He immigrated to the United States in 1906 and landed in Cambria, Wisconsin. He worked in Wisconsin farming until December 1907 when he left for Madison, South Dakota. He worked on farms there until 1908 settled on a homestead south of Bowman, N.D.
