History
Leo Grobe was born and raised in Fargo and graduated from Central High School and attended North Dakota Agricultural College (NDAC) from late 1950s to early 1960s, with military service interrupting his education. Vern Hunter was born and raised in Minot and attended one year of school at University of North Dakota before transferring to NDAC for architecture from 1954-1960s, also with military service during that time.
Hunter and Grobe met while working as draftsmen at Seifert & Stazko. In 1973 the two became partners and started Hunter-Grobe Architecture/Planning. Hunter-Grobe has projects in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Arizona, the White Earth Ojibwe Reservation, and the Standing Rock Lakota Oyate & Dakota Oyate reservation.
The Hunter-Grobe firm primarily designed, renovated, and remodeled educational buildings for public and private institutions and all educational levels. The firm also worked with banks, individual residences, housing developments, retail spaces, hotels, churches, and municipal structures.
