History

The Soil Erosion Service was created in 1933 with funds from the National Industrial Recovery Act. It was expanded when President Roosevelt signed the Soil Conservation Act of 1935. This act created the Soil Conservation Service, and it was placed under the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The S.C.S addressed soil erosion conservation techniques, which include flood surveys, flood control projects, drainage and irrigation work. This included dams which were constructed using workers from the Civilian Conservation Corps and Works Progress Administration.
