Identifier: Photo 417-Photo Folio 99
Scope and Content
The North Dakota Farming Scenes Photograph Collection has been broken down into four folders. The first folder contains photographs of plowing and planting. There are two colorized postcards of steam traction engines pulling plows. Another photo shows a plow demonstration at the Makoti Threshing Show, a spring planting photo with drill being pulled by a Versatile tractor, a farmer loading durum seed into a planter, and a photo of a farmer identified as Martin Stahl on the back of a disk dated 1922.
The second folder contains images of harvesting and threshing. They include images of a John Deere combine in a wheat field, a color postcard of binders, two postcards of threshing machines in action, a tractor and two binders in a field, and a wheat field with shocks. Of special interest is a photograph likely taken around the 1890s with multiple horse-drawn binders in a field with a number of laborers visible.
The third folder contains photographs with other farming topics, including a Steam Threshers Show at Makoti, N.D. and at Bonanzaville in West Fargo, N.D. A colorized postcard entitled “Things are looking fine down on the Claim”, and there are two color postcards of the sugar beet harvest.
The fourth folder contains three oversize photographs. Two are of wheat fields, with shocks, and one showing cattle, is labeled "Herefords on the Phelip Austin Farm, Casselton, N.D.".
