Scope and Contents

This collection contains two photographs. One photograph is of John Dynes, his wife, Emma, and their two children, Fern, and John Elmer (though he is labeled as Elmer on the reverse of the photograph). This photograph is dated about 1915. The other photograph is a portrait of John Dynes that is labeled 1942.

Biography

John Dynes was born March 29, 1860 in Orangeville, Canada. He immigrated to North Dakota, specifically Cass county, and started farming near Grandin, North Dakota. John Dynes married Emma Flatt on June 6, 1888 in Grandin, North Dakota. They had two children, Fern Rachel Dynes Edwards and John Elmer Dynes. John farmed in the area as well as running for state legislature in 1911.



John Dynes died on September 6, 1951 in Los Angeles County, California. He is buried in Riverside Cemetery in Fargo, North Dakota. Emma Dynes died February 14, 1953 in Wheaton, Illinois and is buried next to John.
