History
A semi-autonomous affiliate of the Socialist Party of America was established in the state of North Dakota in 1902. The organization originated as socialist club founded by Norwegian immigrants in Fargo in 1900. A former farmer named Arthur C. Townley, was one of the party's organizers. He abandoned the group in 1915 to establish the Non-Partisan League. The rapid growth of the N.P.L. organization brought about the end of the official Socialist Party of North Dakota.
