Biography
Einer Olstad was born March 7, 1878 in Lillehammer, Norway to Hans Engebretsen and Ida (Kirkeby) Olstad. The family immigrated between 1878 and 1882 and they settled in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. While in South Dakota, Einer married Bessie Johnson on October 26, 1911. He and Bessie would eventually move to North Dakota, first residing in Independent, North Dakota, and then by 1930, living in Golden Valley. He and Bessie, would have at least one child, Harmon. The family would eventually move to a ranch between Medora and Sentinel Butte, North Dakota.
During the 1930s, Einer would enter art school. Combining this with his trade in blacksmithing, Einer would design a sign entrance to the Theodore Roosevelt National Park in Medora, North Dakota.
Einer died March 6, 1955 in Medora, North Dakota and is buried in Sentinel Butte, North Dakota.
