Scope and Content

This collection of The Cynosure has been amassed by the Archives staff, coming from many different sources. Both single issues and year-long runs have been donated over the years by alumni, descendants of alumni as well as the Fargo Public School District. As new issues are donated or found in other donations, they will be added to this collection. The issues of The Cynosure are organized strictly in chronological order by volume number. The volume numbering ran by school, beginning in September of each year and ending in May or June. There is no index to articles within the issues.

History

The Cynosure began publication apparently in 1901 as a monthly student publication of the Fargo, N.D. High School. The title was taken from Milton’s poem L’Allegro according to the web site of the Fargo Central High School Alumni Association. It continued publication into 1966 when Fargo Central High School burned. The school was not rebuilt and instead Fargo South High School was built, complementing Fargo North High School.
