Scope and Content
The New Rockford (N.D.) High School Collection consists of several items that were found tucked into a 1945 New Rockford school yearbook. The items include a five page newsletter entitled "Class of '45" and dated May 31, 1945. There were also several newspaper clippings including Paul A. Miller's (of New Rockford) election as Minot School Superintendent, and a wedding announcement for Elsie Mickelson (New Rockford teacher) to Kenneth Iveson.

History
The New Rockford built its first school house in 1884. There were 36 pupils registered in the first school session. In 1899 a brick school was built, and in 1911 an eight-room addition was attached to the building due to increased enrollment. In 1929 a school gymnasium was built. In 1947, a 10 mill tax levy was approved toward a building fund. In 1953, the North Dakota legislature established a state school construction fund from which districts could borrow to construct buildings. New Rockford was one of the first districts to have building fund monies approved by the state, a total of $140,000. The taxable valuation of school property permitted the issuance of bonds amounting to $109.600. This permitted the construction of a new school building built in 1955. It was designed for an enrollment of over 500 students. There was a steady increase in enrollment due to reorganization and annexation as rural country schools closed. In 1966 another school bond election was held. Funds of $530,000 from the bod issue, were used to build five additional class rooms and physical education facilities.
