Biography

Edward Staib was born in Teplitz, Bessarabia, South Russia (Ukraine) on August 6, 1898, the son of Adam and Emma (Schmidt) Staib. He emigrated to the United States in 1914. He was married to Magdalena Betsch, and together they had six children, Violet, Bernard, Irene, Anna, Adam and Edward Jr. They operated a farm in Cusator Township, Stutsman County, North Dakota, located fourteen miles southeast of the town of Cleveland. Besides farming, Mr. Staib devoted his spare time training his horses, Silver, Buck and Sam to do tricks and play games with his family. In the 1930s and 1940s he traveled the country and state fairs showing off his “Miracle Horses”. In 1946, the family moved to Madison, Nebraska, but continued to farm their North Dakota property. Mr. Staib died while driving tractor on his farm on October 6, 1962. He was buried in Highland Home Cemetery in Jamestown.
