History

Noble Township (Township 143, Range 49) is located in extreme northeastern Cass County, North Dakota, along the banks of the Red River of the North. The township was organized on April 15, 1884. Earlier in 1882 a rural post office had been established in Section 22 with the name Noble. The post office and township were named for H.W. Noble of Erie, Pennsylvania who owned a large farm at Erie, North Dakota as well as being an oil producer and banker at Erie, Pennsylvania. The first settler in the township was Martin Schow who came in 1870 from Norway with his family and was one of the earliest settlers in Cass County as well.
