Scope and Contents

The Richland Rural Water Users Records are the records kept by Lyle West while serving on the board of directors. The minutes (1974-1976) document the initial development of the organization and providing a rural water supply in Richland County, N.D. Of note are the minutes of the June 9, 1975 meeting that includes a feasibility report done by Houston Engineering. The financial reports series includes annual audits of the association’s financial records, all done by Eide Helmeke & Co. of Fargo, N.D. In the finding aid file there is also a letter and ‘Consolidation Packet’ dated from 2005 regarding the proposed merger of the three water districts.

History

The Richland Rural Water Users was organized in June 1974, by June of the next year there were 693 members of which 670 are farm or rural residents, twenty residents of cities and small communities and three cities. Its purpose was to determine the feasibility and implement the construction and operation of a rural water supply system in twenty townships in central and northeast Richland County, N. D. It apparently changed its name to Southeast Water Users District and circa 2005 it consolidated with Ransom/Sargent Water Users District and Dickey Rural Water Users District. The headquarters for the current association is located at Mantador, N.D.
