Scope and Contents

The Cora Sears Roggeveen papers consist of one scrapbook. It is a mixed collection, mostly of newspaper clippings. It includes recipes, poems, crochet patterns, and recital programs. There are also numerous clippings of news items, including several on the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Mrs. Roggeveen utilized a copy of the Commissioner of Agriculture Report for 1869 as the basis for her scrapbook. She pasted items onto the pages.

Biography

Cora Sears Roggeveen was born December 2, 1858 in Cortland, New York, to Eli and Lydia (Craw) Sears. She homesteaded two miles west of Abercrombie, North Dakota. She was married to Richard Roggeveen on May 3, 1885 at Abercrombie. They had two daughters, Alina Frances in 1887, and Lydia Marguerite in 1895. In the early 1890s, they moved to Blue Island, Illinois, where Cora died on June 5, 1946.
