History

The North Dakota Council of Teachers of English was the state chapter of the National Council of Teachers of English, an organization designed with the purpose of assisting English teachers at all levels. Its purpose as stated in its constitution was “to make the teaching of language, literature, and composition more effective at all levels in North Dakota schools; to stimulate professional development; and to establish national contacts through affiliation with the National Council of Teachers of English.” To that end, it helps design courses, plan classes, and facilitate the publication of teachers’ writing (fiction, poetry, etc.). It also has annual conventions, workshops, and other events. The North Dakota Council of teachers of English no longer exists, but when active, it fulfilled the national council’s goals on the state level.
