Scope and Contents

The Know Your North Dakota collection consists of copies of the articles released by the Greater North Dakota Association. The collection is organized in date-of-issue order from 1958 to 1971. Each article also includes the name of its author. Copies of some of the articles are from weekly newspapers in the state rather than the actual press release. The articles cover a wide range of topics related to North Dakota history, including prominent North Dakotans, historic places and events, as well regarding Indians and contemporary events such as the oil industry and population trends.

History

Know Your North Dakota was sponsored by the Greater North Dakota Association’s Publicity Committee and the weekly newspapers of North Dakota. The articles were written by a variety of authors across the state. The series was issued by the GNDA on a subscription basis to newspaper publishers for publication in the local newspaper. The series began to be issued in 1958 and continued into at least 1971. Although intended to be done on a monthly basis it quickly became issued on an irregular basis.
