The Clarence & Leah (Lackman) Jaeger Collection consists of handwritten and printed recipes; greeting cards; family history information on the Jaeger, Birkmaier, and Jacober/Jakober familes; scrapbooks; a cookbook from St. Paul’s Icelandic Lutheran Church, 1926; and a book, Niemals allein. The collection is in German and English. The majority of the collection dates from the 1920s to the 1950s. The collection has largely been arranged based on the organization it was in when it was donated. The collection has been organized into six series: Family History, Greeting Card, Recipe, Binder, Scrapbook, and Book.

The Family History Series contains information on the Jacober/Jakober, Jaeger, and Birmaier familes. The information is mainly in photocopies and scans. There are also obituaries for Rose Jaegar and George Jaeger.

The Greeting Card Series is comprised of Christmas, birthday, confirmation, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day cards. The greeting cards are mostly in the German language but some are also in English. Not all of the cards are dated but the ones that are date from 1944 to 1954.

The Recipe Series includes handwritten and printed recipes on index cards. The recipes are in German and English and are for a wide variety of foods. The recipes were originally stored in a small, yellow Colman’s Mustard recipe box. The recipes have been removed from the box and placed into two folders.

The Binder Series consists of two binders. The contents of these binders were removed and placed into folders, but their original order has been maintained. The binders have been arranged into two sub-series based on the color of each binder: Black Binder and Blue Binder. The Black Binder Sub-Series has handwritten and printed recipes. The binder and recipes belonged to Rose “Rosie” (Jacober) Jaeger. Written on the binder is “Rosie. Recipes. Oct. 1, 1929.” The black binder is still present in the collection and can be found in Box 2. The Blue Binder Sub-Series has a variety of materials. The binder’s materials have been removed and placed into folders. The blue binder is still present in the collection and can be found in Box 2. The binder belonged to Anna Jakober/Jacober, who was a sister of Rose (Jacober) Jaeger. The sub-series has handwritten and printed recipes in German and English, correspondence, greeting cards, newspaper clippings, and miscellaneous items. All of these items relate to Anna “Ann” Jakober/Jacober. The miscellaneous items are a small calendar from 1928 and two calling cards for Ann Jacober and Louise Jacober.

The Scrapbook Series contains recipes, canning/ curing instructions, and household hints in newspaper clippings. There were a number of loose clippings in the scrapbook. These items have been placed into their own folder. Most of the clippings are from unknown sources, but the sources that are known include: Capper’s Farmer, The Dakota Farmer, Woman’s World, Mothers-Home Life/ The Household Guest, Woman’s Home Companion, and Liberty. Most of the clippings are undated, but a few are and their dates are 1921, 1923, 1927, 1928, 1941, 1959, and 1960.

The Book Series is comprised of two books. One book is a cookbook in English and the other book is in German. The cookbook, The Y.L.U. Cook Book, was published in 1926 by the Young Ladies’ Union of St. Paul’s Icelandic Lutheran Church, Minneota, Minnesota. The other book is a small booklet with thirty-two pages. It is titled Niemals allein.
