TRANSLATED CORRESPONDENCE SERIES
Scope and Contents
The Marlene (Flath) Strand Collection consists of two main components: a collection of 26 photographs, c. 2003, of textiles that are from Strand’s personal collection, and a grouping of letters written by Germans from Russia in Bessarabia, dated 1910- 1948. This collection has one series, the Translated Correspondence Series. This series contains 17 letters which were translated by Edwin Ziegler. Some of the names associated with these letters are: Gottlieb and Lousia Heier, Johann and Christina Flath, and Christina Gottschalk. Also contained within this collection is one folder of correspondence, dated 2003 and 2008, and one family tree, submitted by Strand, of the Flath and Gottschalk families. Also present is a book of crochet patterns, which is photocopied.
The photographs, 2003.16.01- 2003.16.26, are all 35mm photographs. There are notation on their reverse. Two CD-ROM’s and one floppy disk containing digital image files of the textiles are also housed within this collection.
