Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Peggy (Gustin) Emmel Collection consists of eight letters and one envelope. Six of the letters are in German while the other two are in English. Also present in the collection are photocopies of all the letters.

The German correspondence is the bulk of the collection, ranging from 1922 to 1935. The other two letters are in English. One is not dated but appears to be a number of years old. The letter is noteworthy because it is a scam. In the letter, the author beseeches the recipient for help in obtaining 360,000 dollars, and the author offers 120,000 dollars as a reward. The other English letter is more recent and dates to 2008. The letter was sent to Peggy Emmel from a man named Dave, who writes about the scam letter. In the letter he writes, “I don’t know anything more about this letter, but I can tell you from my experience with the FBI that this swindle… is still being tried today from various corners of the world.”
