Scope and Contents

The Deloris (Soria) Diegel Collection consists of three books and one shawl. A note along with the collection said, “German books belonged to Leah Kienzle Wanner and Lydia Kienzle Diegel (Sisters). Shawl purchased in Montana in the 1930’s.”

The Book Series contains three books dating from 1873 to 1904, all are in German. Two of the books are bibles, and one is a song book. The condition of the books ranges from good to poor.

The Textile Series is comprised of one shawl. The shawl has black beading on a black net, and it has a seam across the width of the center back. It is approximately 48” long x 19” wide.

Biography

Lea (Kienzle) Wanner was born on August 23, 1913, to parents Christian and Katharina (Lang) Kienzle. On November 27, 1932, Lea Wanner married Christian “Christ” Wanner, and the couple had two children: Oscar and Doloris. Lea (Kienzle) Wanner died on April 28, 1991, at the age of seventy-seven. Christian Wanner died on October 3, 1998, at the age of ninety.

Lydia (Kienzle) Wanner was born on February 16, 1916, to parents Christian and Katharina (Lang) Kienzle. She later married Gustav Diegel. Lydia (Kienzle) Wanner died on October 15, 1972, at the age of fifty-six. Gustav Diegel died on May 9, 1984, at the age of seventy-three.

Delmar Diegel was born on June 7, 1938, to parents Gustav and Lydia (Kienzle) Wanner. Delmar later married Deloris Soria. Delmar Diegel died on September 25, 2004, at the age of sixty-six.

Deloris (Soria) Diegel was born on October 4, 1936, to parents Max and Florence (DeLeon) Soria. Deloris Soria later married Delmar Diegel. Deloris Diegel is a resident of Wishek, North Dakota.
