 Collection
Identifier: GRHC 027

Scope and Contents

The Wanda (Zeller) Peterson Collection is a grouping of documents that were donated by Peterson to the GRHC along with some textiles which are now housed in the Emily P. Reynolds Historic Costume Collection. These documents concern families of German Russian descent and their heritage. This collection has been arranged into four folders of subject files.

The Genealogical Materials folder contains several documents that concern the histories of several family groups, including: “Johannes Zeller Family History” by Bertha Bieber, “The Three Generations of Wm. Mueller”, “Background and Reminiscings of Grandparents Mueller”, and pedigree charts for Christoph Stickel (1858-1914), and Joshua Peterson (1987- ), and photocopies of a family history written by Gottlieb Zeller, Sr. in 1950.

The Periodical Clippings folder contains a photocopy of an advertisement for Peavey Elevators and an article written about Henry Zeller titled “Both Are Retired Now: He and His Machine Tamed Soil” that ran in The Bismarck Tribune on 16 September 1969.

The Photographs folder contains three photographic prints of images of individuals from the Zeller Family. Some of the subjects include: Leontina (Mueller) Zeller, Henry Zeller, Lucille Griffin, and Lorentina Zeller.

The textiles include two table runners, two towels, and one lace fragment: The first table runner (2010.22.01.01) is 54” x 17.” It has plain white linen fabric with filet crocheted edging on both short ends. The pattern is two rows of simple crosses, one row next to fabric and one row in each of eight points on the edge. Picot on each chain on outermost row. The second table runner (2010.22.01.02) is 29” x 14.” It has plain white cotton huck-weave fabric with white cotton crocheted edging on both short ends. The pattern is three tight bands of double stitch ending in a point consisting of blocks and chains with picots. The first towel (2010.22.02.01) is 22 ½” x 16 ½.” It has plain white cotton huck-weave fabric with embroidery and white cotton crocheted edging on both short ends. Embroidery is curving line of French knots in medium blue floss; crosshatching and sprigs of leaves in white floss; daisies in yellow floss with centers of three French knots in gray floss. Short ends edges are scalloped. Crochet pattern is simple chain with picots between clusters of double crochet. The second towel (2010.22.02.02) is 18 ¼” x 13.” It has plain white cotton huck-weave fabric with small scalloped ends. It also has Greek key design woven in near each end. Machine embroidered wreath of leaves, flower and ribbon at one end. Probably hand embroidered “M” in wreath. The lace fragment is about 19 1/2” long, about 7” at deepest point. Wide piece of crocheted edging lace in slightly gray/ecru cotton. Three fan motifs with woven bands interlacing in between the fans. Has fabric still attached where it was originally attached by crocheting into an even weave, white fabric. It may have been guest towel edging or lambrequin. It is one of a known pair.
