Scope and Contents

The Mary Ann (Werre) Lehr Collection consists of one songbook, Songs We Love to Sing II, hadnwritten letters in German, and one large panoramic photograph of coal mining in Garrison ND. The book was published in Bismarck, North Dakota in 1985 by the Germans from Russia Heritage Society (GRHS). There is an inscription in the book that reads, “Julius Werre/ Lehr, N. Dak.” The book contains over 200 songs in both English and German.

Biography

Julius Werre was born on October 08, 1901 to parents Fred and Rosina (Weisenburger) Werre. Emelia Zimmerman was born in 1905 to parents Balthasar and Barbara (Wahl) Zimmerman. Julius Werre married Emelia Zimmerman, and the couple lived in Lehr, North Dakota. They had two children: Adeline and Mary Ann. Julius Werre died on November 3, 1979 at the age of seventy-nine. Emelia (Zimmerman) Werre died on March 31, 1991.
