Scope and Contents

The Christian Maedche Collection consists of two hymnals of Evangelical congregational heritage (Methodist). The books date to the late 1800s to the early 1900s. Weihnachtsklaenge für Sonntagschulen and Unser Männerchor are in German. The hymnals are worn, but for the most part, they are in good condition.

Biography

Christian E. Maedche was born on December 16, 1894, in Bessarabia, Russia. Christian immigrated to the United States in 1910. In the 1920 U.S. Census, Christ E. Maedche is listed as a resident of a dormitory at Redfield College, South Dakota. Christian Maedche married Lydia Trautman, and the couple had three children: Helmut, Ernest, and Oleta. Lydia (Trautman) Maedche died on January 20, 1972. Rev. Christian E. Maedche died on January 11, 1984.
