Scope and Contents

The Alvina Schurr Collection consists of twelve photographs relating to the Schurr, Hartwig, Bauer, Peltz, Redman, and Grenz families; circa 1880s-1920s. The photographs are primarily of family, couple, and wedding portraits. The other images are of farm scenes. These photographs were taken on the August Bauer farm and the Wilhelm “William” Schurr farm. More descriptive information about each photograph is available below and on DSpace (link to the photographs is available above).

Biography

Wilhelm “William” Schurr was born on February 15, 1888, at Blue Grass, North Dakota, to Joseph and Catharina (Buchmann) Schurr. On December 14, 1909, he married Lydia Grenz, who was born on March 19, 1892, near Mound City, South Dakota, to Friedrich and Rosina Grenz. The Schurr family immigrated to Canada in the spring of 1912. Wilhelm “William” and Lydia (Grenz) Schurr had six children: Louise, Calvin, Herbert, Ellen, Alvina, and Ruben.

Alvina Schurr was born on August 25, 1924 to William and Lydia (Grenz) Schurr in Saskatchewan, Canada.
