Scope and Contents

The Bryan Vossler Collection consists of two issues of Die Hausfrau from 1929 and 1931 that belonged to Martha Abeling of Drake, North Dakota. The first issue is volume 25, number 10, August 1929; and the second issue is volume 27, number 10, August 1931. Both issues are primarily in the German language and were published in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Both issues stamped on the lower right of the front cover as a subscription for: “Mrs. W Abeling, Ret 1, Drake, No. Dak.”

Biography

Martha Abeling was born in Germany in 1877. She immigrated to the United States in 1896. Martha later married William Abeling, son of Charles and Caroling Abeling. William Abeling was born in Germany on November 23, 1874. William and Martha Abeling settled and raised a family around the Lake George-Drake area in McHenry County, North Dakota. William Abeling died on September 22, 1941. Martha Abeling died in 1957.
