Identifier: GRHC 120

Scope and Contents

The Donna (Keller) Zeeb Collection consists of ten copied images of a sod house and barn near the Firesteel Trail in South Dakota; and four German language theology books, dating from the early 1880s to 1904. The collection is arranged into two series: Image and Book.

The Image Series contains scanned copies of ten photographs relating to sod house and barn near Firesteel Trail in South Dakota. The ten images are printed on four pages of photo paper. A note from the donor was included along with the images, and part of it reads: “Elmer & Amanda (Harnish) Grosz Grandfather built the House. Location: Highway 25, 1 mile west of 25, 1 mile north, 1 mile west, then go into the farm… Northwest of the farm there was a creek behind the house. Mill was located there, dam & water wheel stone showed on picture. Also, a hatchery was on the farm.”

The Book Series is comprised of three theology books, all of which are in the German language. The books date from the early 1880s to 1904. These books are from congregants of pioneer rural Freudental German Reformed Church located seven miles north of Menno, Hutchinson County, South Dakota and west of Freeman, South Dakota. One hymnal, 2010.12.03, has an inscription on the flyleaf of “Henry Gross.”
