Joan (Beaman) Heitman Collection
Scope and Contents
The Joan (Beaman) Heitman Collection is a small textile collection comprised of a straight razor and two shawls.
The straight razor has a black plastic handle and a metal blade. One side of the blade is engraved, “BISMASRCK” and the other is engraved, “Fr. Schasiepen/ Hannover-Linden.” The straight razor has a paper or paperboard case, which is engraved, “JH Becker/ Hanover,” and “Schulzmarke Garantie.” The razor dates to about 1900.
The first shawl is black with pink and purple flowers hand embroidered in one corner. The shawl size is 33” x 30 ½” and has a 3” black fringe. The shawl dates to about the late 1800s to the early 1900s.
The second shawl is black and has a pink/ red rose border with green leaves and blue buds. The shawl size is 25 ⅜” x 27 ⅛” and has a 3 ½” black fringe. The shawl dates to about the late 1800s to the early 1900s.
