Scope and Contents

Dates of photos in this collection range from 1890 to 1975.The collection contains scanned copies of photographs from the collection of Lawrence and Martha (Kogler) Quatier, Moscow Township, McIntosh County, North Dakota. In the Finding Aid and Inventory folder there is a letter dated 15 May, 2017 to Michael M. Miller from Lenora “Ida” Ackerman-Quatier regarding the selection and copying of photographs in the four albums.

The CD Series contains scanned copies of photographs and text from each of four photograph albums relating to the Kogler, Quatier, Ackerman and Sayler families. Album 1 shows the Lawrence and Martha (Kogler) Quatier family photographs. Albums 2-4 contain the Edward and Martha (Sayler) Ackerman family and farm photographs. CD 1 has 19 photographs from 1908 to 1980, CD 2 contains 69 photographs ranging from 1890 to 1975, CD 3 contains 57 photographs ranging from 1928-1975 but mostly between 1940’s and 1950’s, and CD 4 holds photographs from 1918-1957.

The Photograph Album Series contains photocopies of each album page showing placement of photographs, the photographs are labeled and dated accordingly.

Biography

Kunrad and Katherine (Kost) Kogler were born in Rohrbach, South Russia. They married in Worms, South Russia, and came to the United States in 1885, locating first in Artas, South Dakota, before relocating to McIntosh County, west of Green Lake. Their daughter Martha married Lawrence Quatier.

George and Elizabeth (Zoller) Ackerman, Sr., married in Rohrbach, South Russia. They came to Logan County, North Dakota in the spring of 1889 from Rohrbach, Kherson, Odessa, Ukraine. They lived in a sod house northwest of Wishek, North Dakota, and had ten children. Their son Edward married Martha Sayler in 1923. She was the daughter of Frederick and Christina (Werner) Sayler, Sr.

The Ackerman family farm was located in Johannesdal Township, Logan County, North Dakota, and four miles north of Wishek, ND. The Sayler homestead was four miles northwest of Wishek, McIntosh County, North Dakota. The Kogler farm was west of Green Lake in McIntosh County.
