Scope and Contents

The Leona (Bauer) Schnabel Collection consists of two religious books that belonged to Leona (Bauer) Schnabel and two bookmarks. The collection has been organized into two series: Book and Bookmark.

The Book Series consists of two books dating from about 1919 to 1950. One book is in the German language and the other is in both German and English. They are in a relatively good condition.

The Bookmark Series contains two bookmarks that were found in one of the books. One bookmark is a yellow, loosely woven ribbon bookmark with a crocheted gold metallic cross on one end and two gold metallic crocheted angels on the other. The second bookmark is a plastic bookmark that has an illustration of Martin Luther nailing his 95 theses on a church door and “Ein feste burg ist unser Gott” in five languages.

Biography

Leona Bauer was born on May 10, 1925 to John and Christina (Bader) Bauer. On October 7, 1945, Leona Bauer married Ferdinand Schnabel, son of Adam and Bertha (Thurn) Schnabel. Ferdinand and Leona (Bauer) Schnabel had one daughter: Stella. The family lived on a farm south of Wishek, North Dakota. Ferdinand Schnabel died on June 20, 1995 at the age of 74. Leona (Bauer) Schnabel died on June 21, 2013 at the age of 88.

Stella Schnabel was born on October 22, 1948 to Ferdinand and Leona (Bauer) Schnabel. On April 7, 1978, Stella Schnabel married Gordon Chamberlain.
