Biography

Samuel Hansch was a German, born on December 6, 1883 near Rosenthal, Russia. He was an only child. He married Mary Altergott. She was born on March 28, 1985, she was also German, and born in Schweden, Russia. She was one of twelve children.

Sam immigrated to America in 1912. He sent for Mary and three of their five children later as he did not have enough money for them all to travel at the same time. Mary and her children arrived in 1913. They met up in Chicago where they lived for a few years. They then moved to Sibley Country, Minnesota where they started farming. There were five children born in the United States. Their oldest son, who was born in Russia, arrived in 1926 after having difficulty immigrating. When Mary and Sam retired in the early 1950s they moved into a house in Gaylord, MN which is located in Sibley County. Mary died suddenly on June 14, 1963. Sam died on July 15, 1968. They are both buried at Immanuel Lutheran Church cemetery in Gaylord.
