Scope and Contents

The Nies Family Collection contains a raccoon fur coat, a traveling suitcase, and family history. The coat was given to Jacob Nies by his parents Ludwig and Margareta (Walth) Nies around the time of his marriage. The coat was passed on to his daughter, Mildred (Nies) Meidinger of Wishek, ND and was worn by her husband, Thomas Meidinger.

The coat was packed inside the traveling case.

Also included in the collection is family history for the Nies Family of Wishek, ND. The document focuses on the descendants of Ludwig Nies.

Biography

Jacob Nies was born to Ludwig and Margareta (Walth) Nies on October 24, 1893 in Russia. He immigrated to the United States in May 1905. Jacob married Martha Aipperspach (3/3/1900-1980) on October 30, 1919. They resided in rural Wishek, ND and had 5 children. Jacob died on August 23, 1970 in Lodi, CA. The coat was then passed to his daughter, Mildred Nies.

Mildred was born on August 16, 1929. She married Tom Meidinger on November 16, 1948. They had three children. Mildred died on September 30, 2012 in Fargo, ND.
