Welk Homestead Batsa Brick

Scope and Contents
Sod (batsa) brick, gray-brown, 12” long by 5 ¾” at widest by 4 ¾.” Deliberate notch at plain end 4” by 1.” Made of clay, manure and straw. Opposite end is white (whitewash) with green paint around the side about 1 ½” into the side. Shows signs of plaster. ¼” flange on side opposite notch. Condition: Good. Whitewashed side has triangular piece missing about 2” wide tapering down to ½” at narrow end. Clay, straw and dust flake off when handled.
History of brick: Collected from the Welk Homestead on 14 June 2015. Taken from a recent restoration project at the homestead. [no date when actually removed] Two photos taken by Michael M.
