Biographical / Historical

“There is hereby established an agricultural experiment station in connection with the North Dakota Agricultural College, and under the direct supervision of the board of directors of said college, for the purpose of conducting experiments in agriculture, according to terms of Section 1 of an act of Congress, approved March 2, 1887, and entitled “An act to establish agricultural experiment stations in connection with the colleges established in the several states, under the provision of an act, approved July 2, 1862, and of the acts supplementary thereto.” (Laws passed at The First Session of the Legislative Assembly of Agricultural Experiment Station, Fargo Records Page 2 of 22 the State of North Dakota, Bismarck, 1890, Chapter 160. Agricultural College at Fargo, section 16., p.471) Today, the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station develops and disseminates technology important to the production and utilization of food, feed, fiber and fuel from crop and livestock enterprises. Its research enhances the quality of life, sustainability of production and protection of the environment. The opportunity for NDSU AES to help solve the ongoing problems the state faces in economic development, crop and livestock production, value-added activities, and others that we are beginning to address, such as agro-tourism, food safety, and biosecurity, provides an important challenge to our faculty and staff. The NDSU Main Station in Fargo and the Research Extension Centers throughout the state, are committed to develop information, technology, and products that will allow North Dakotans to succeed in this new century.
