Biographical / Historical

NDSU is a student focused, land grant, research university. As a student focused university, our students learn in an academically rigorous environment and engage in challenging design projects both inside the classroom and as part of the more than 30 clubs and organizations within the College. These organizations provide students with leadership, professional development and networking opportunities. As a land grant university, we provide affordable access to a high-quality education and our students engineer solutions to real-world problems that benefit our state and region. As a research university, we provide opportunities for both graduate and undergraduate students to be directly involved in world-class research. Furthermore, the College supports an environment for innovation, encouraging the creation and transfer of new knowledge.

In today’s rapidly changing world, we need innovative problem solvers and technical leaders now more than ever. The College of Engineering offers degree programs in eight engineering disciplines as well as computer science and construction management. From classical areas of engineering like vehicle and roadway design to emerging areas in new materials, biomedical applications and cybersecurity, our graduates are equipped with the theory and practical application necessary to solve the problems in today’s society. Our students are highly sought after by employers at our biannual career fairs which each draw more than 200 companies to campus to recruit our students for internships or full time jobs. Our graduates are in high demand in the workforce, with almost 90% of our students employed in their field of study within six months of graduation.
